Course Description

In this hands-on sewing class, students will learn to create a stylish and practical lined tote bag, perfect for everyday use. The class covers essential sewing skills such as making pockets, sewing seams, attaching straps, and installing a magnetic snap closure. By the end of the course, students will have completed a lined tote bag and built a strong foundation in basic sewing techniques. This class is designed for beginners but is also suitable for anyone looking to refine their sewing skills in a supportive, creative environment. All materials are provided!

This class requires some basic proficiency in these skills:
- Following a seam allowance
- Confidence in sewing a straight line
- Understanding the basics of sewing two pieces of fabric together (starting and stopping, backstitching)

Learning Objectives

After completing this course students should be able to:

• Cut and Prepare Fabric: Accurately measure, cut, and prepare fabric pieces, including interfacing and lining preparation.

• Construct and Attach Pockets: Create a divided interior pocket, sew it into the lining, and ensure proper placement for optimal functionality.

• Sew Seams and Assemble the Tote: Use straight and topstitching techniques to sew seams for both the outer bag and the lining, and learn how to assemble the bag’s structure.

• Attach Magnetic Snap Closure: Properly install a magnetic snap closure to secure the bag's opening, understanding its placement and function.

• Create and Attach Straps: Construct sturdy fabric straps, attach them securely to the tote bag, and ensure proper alignment for balance and strength.
