The Intro to Leatherworking is dividided into four sections:

  • Intro
    • Class Introduction
    • Safety Tips
    • Why We Still Work with Leather
    • Leather Grades/Quality/Types
    • Tools
  • Design
    • The Process of Designing a Project
    • Inches vs Centimeters
    • How to Practice without Waste
    • Resources for Templaces
    • During design discussion, we will trace and cut out our wallet piece.
  • Stitching
    • Why We Still Hand Stitch
    • A Brief History of the Saddle Stitch
    • Thread Types
    • Hole Punching
    • Harness vs Glover Needles
    • How to Backstitch
    • During stitching, we will punch our holes, and learn our first saddle stitch.
  • Finishing
    • Edge Beveling
    • Sanding
    • Sealing/Treating/Cleaning Leather
    • Edge Burnishing
    • During finishing, we will round and slick the edges of our wallet, and break up any leftover glue inside.

After completion of this course, participants will have learned the basics of crafting a small leather project that can then be built upon into almost any project they can dream up.
