Metal Shop Safety w/ Savanna

This class provides an introduction to our metal working shop, with a focus on safely using hand tools, the band saws, the chop saws, the sanders and grinders, and the drill press. This class aims to convey the general safety principles of the metal shop as well as covering its specific policies and procedures. Members must take this class before using the tools in the metal shop.

Class Objectives

1. Demonstrate safe and effective skills in all basic areas of the metal shop. 

   1. Identifying the appropriate tools and equipment to perform the required operation

   2. Correct selection of tool speed and lubricants/cooling fluids

   3. Properly securing materials

2. Demonstrate the ability to set up, use, teardown, and cleanup tools and equipment

Attendees should bring eye protection and hearing protection to class, wear long trousers and wear closed toe shoes.
